Lincoln County is home to many veterans, and it is our privilege to honor their service. Schnackenberg & Riddle Funeral Home coordinates military funeral honors and helps families secure the burial benefits every eligible veteran has earned.
Military Funeral Honors
Every eligible veteran is entitled to military funeral honors, including the folding and presentation of the United States flag and the playing of Taps. The ceremony is performed by an honors detail of at least two members of the Armed Forces, at least one from the branch in which the veteran served. We coordinate every detail so these honors are rendered properly.
Burial Flags, Headstones & Markers
The Department of Veterans Affairs provides, at no cost, a United States flag to drape the casket or accompany the urn of a veteran who served honorably. The VA also furnishes a government headstone, marker, or niche cover for eligible veterans in any cemetery in the world. We help families complete and file the applications for these benefits.
Establishing Eligibility
Funeral honors and VA burial benefits are established with the veteran's discharge papers, most commonly the DD Form 214. If you cannot locate a copy, don't worry — we can help you request records and determine which benefits apply. Members of the Selected Reserve and the PHS and NOAA Commissioned Corps may also qualify.
